Travelers to New England tended to be families. The ages of most of the adults with occupations were over thirty.Families comprised children, some as young as one year.Servants were in their 20s and, by least in one case, included a younger kinswoman. (Female relating of the servant)Occupations listed denote the existence of a settled community.Very few single persons are listed.
While plenary scholarly studies have focused above complicated aspects of colonial community and family life, decisive common conclusions can be painted from the two lists of passengers:
Emigrants Bound for New England
Given the fact that colonial settlement in the Chesapeake was more warmhearted dispersed than in New England, it namely easy to see how the influx of unattached, young servants contributed to a slower pace of family growth and community establishing than in the Northern colonies. This may have been exacerbated in the medial 17th century as Africans began to take the location of indentured slavery.
The list of passengers traveling to New England contains entire families and lists occupations. For instance [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Joseph Hull of Somerset was traveling with his second wife, 7 children, and three servants, one of whom was a female. Joseph Hull was a minister. His oldest child, Joan [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], was elderly 15. Since his wife was merely twenty-five, it can be assumed that Hull had been married formerly.

General Conclusions Drawn from the List of Emigrants
Emigrants Bound for Virginia
In 1635, two ships left England with colonials destined for North America. The 1st team of emigrants was leap for New England while the other was brained to Virginia. A approximation of names, ages [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and occupations demonstrates the distinctions between the two colonies in terms of family and community.
Unlike New England, historians have estimate namely three-quarters of all aliens apt the Chesapeake district arrived as indentured waiters. [1] A study of indentured servants in 1773-1776 along Farley Grubb [2] indicates, for instance, that 90.35% of entire Virginia emigrants came as indentured servants, likened to 1.85% in New England.
Another tourist, Musachiell Bernard of Batcombe, was a 24-year age clothier. Clothiers did not make clothing. Rather, they fulled and wore fabric which meant to neat and thicken fabric and put it in nice mandate. Bernard traveled with a wife and two sons.
Another family traveling to New England was the Tabor family, led by Timothy whose occupation is listed as tailor. Aged 35, he was accompanied by a wife, three kid, and one servant. Other occupations listed included assorted husbandmen alternatively planters.
The 1635 boat passenger list corroborates this. 23 names on the list were beneath the old of twenty. One man was 30, two males were 40, and only one masculine was 50. 64 men and 11 women comprised the list of indentured servants. The list gives not indication of families, as does the New England one. However, there are men and women with the same final names which could indicate kinship.
