The chord processions will be familiar to the fans of Broken Bells, and the quicker tempo gives the song an energizing feel. It can be sampled at the band’s music site and is now available for download on Digital 45 with the hit “The Ghost Inside” from their debut album.
Broken Bells combines The Shins and Gnarls Barkley Artists
The newest single, “Meyrin Fields” possesses a feel that is less rock and more pop than the band’s debut, but the departure is not so severe as to alienate fans. Quite the contrary: it is enough of something new to leave each and every one of them salivating for more.
James Mercer of The Shins brings his Indie rock vibe and choral vocals to the mix, lending the characteristic singer-songwriter characteristics to the song. Together with Danger Mouse, whose best known project was Gnarls Barkley, his collaboration with Cee-Lo Green, and who has worked with The Black Keys and Beck, the two bring combine an electric/pop feel with the melodic simplicity characteristic of Indie artists. The product is Broken Bells: oftentimes a quirky, electronic mix of acoustics and synthesizers with the artists’ highly recognizable voices mixed in for good measure.

Fans of The Shins need not fear Mercer’s defection [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], though. The singer stated this summer that the group has been in the studio and will be releasing a new album soon. Burton is reportedly producing an upcoming U2 album as well, making Broken Bells perhaps one of the best side projects in modern music history.

New Single "Meyrin Fields"
Sharing the electric/choral qualities of the previously released tune “Your Head is On Fire,” and “Meyrin Fields” pays tribute to the individual musical styles of Mercer and Burton. The syncopated rhythm of the new single lends a post-apocalyptic feel to the song as the lyrics declare “It’s coming/Wait for it!” The hard beats and darker tone remind the reader of the nihilistic persuasion of Muse, however no one could call Broken Bells a copy of anything in the music world.
Music veterans James Mercer and Brian Burton, Danger Mouse founded Broken Bells in the fall of 2009 and have already garnered massive support and praise from audiences. The amalgamation of the two, very distinct artist results in, quite simply, musical magic.

Mercer and Burton are their own men, and what they present is something altogether original and unique [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], broadening the definition of crossover artists to include individuals of vastly different backgrounds and persuasions [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not unlike the recent Kanye West/Justin Vernon collaboration, merging pop and Indie.
Just as fans of Broken Bells memorized all of their favorite tunes from the band’s self-titled debut, released March 2010, the band offers a new, previously unreleased song, “Meyrin Fields,” available for download now.
