Aside from the terrible acting, the film also boasts an unmotivated plot. Already from the beginning, viewers are wondering why someone would pick up a hitchhiker. Then, they are wondering, for about an hour and a half, why the characters are still being chased and hunted by the hitchhiker. Why is the question of the hour and a half. Why is time being wasted on this? Why was this film made? Why does it matter what happens to either protagonist or the villain? Who cares?
Horrific Acting
Who in their right mind picks up a hitchhiker at night in the pouring rain in an abandoned town? Admittedly, audiences are expected to suspend their disbelief often in horror films, but this was simply too much suspension. When does the make-believe stop and the reality kick in? It is possible to make a captivating and scary horror film that has at least some realism too it. Nothing about The Hitcher is realistic; not the plot, not the characters. And in those horror films where most aspects are unrealistic, one thing can float the film: great acting. Unfortunately, The Hitcher is not one of those films. To complement Bush's semi-good acting and Knighton's rough acting is Bean's lackluster acting. As a villain, Bean should evoke hatred from the audience. This does not happen. Bean's acting is void of any emotion and viewers are not left in fear [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but rather left in a state of nothing.

Lack of Realism
Be prepared to spend most of The Hitcher wondering what is happening and why anyone should care. The Hitcher, a 1982 remake of the film by the same name, wants to become something, it really does [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but it simply is not good enough. No film can stand on the terrible acting of only three main characters, played by two virtually unknown actors and one actress only known to those who watch One Tree Hill on the CW. No film can stand on a plot line that keeps viewers wondering, "Why is this still happening?" And then there is the gratuitous gore, a staple in horrible horror films everywhere. In a movie that does not make sense most of the time and is not at all entertaining, the misuse of gore is simply a kick to a viewer who is down.
Sophia Bush plays Grace, a college student who is spring break bound with her boyfriend, the end result being a cabin on a lake with old friends. Bush's acting is not terrible; the potential is there for her to be something great. Unfortunately, her semi-good acting is not enough to save this movie. The dialogue is horrific and there is virtually no chemistry between Bush and Zachary Knighton, who plays her boyfriend Jim. Knighton's acting is rough; and his character's judgment is hugely unrealistic. Jim expresses interest in picking up hitchhiker John Ryder, played by Sean Bean [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and eventually does, much to the distress of Grace.
