Best Things About 'White Noise'
Living End: 'White Noise' - To Buy Or Not To Buy?
The guitar work of singer/guitarist Chris Cheney is as always outstanding. Riffs on tracks such as 'Make The Call' show his undoubtable talent with his six string weapon, as he uses inventive, cool riffs to make the songs that bit better.
In addition, there is a 'bigger' feel about this album than the likes of 'Roll On' and 'Modern ARTillery', and one can definitely hear the influence of AC/DC shining through on tracks such as 'Waiting For The Silence' and the opener 'How Do We Know'. This encapsulates their extended popularity and their transition from a club-sized band to a stadium sized band in Australia.
There is quite a lot of variety on this album as well. For example, 'Loaded Gun' shows The Living End can use a slow pace to engage the listener, in contrast to fast punk songs such as 'Raise The Alarm'.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Fans of the older work of the Living End should be warned that this album is nothing like their other albums. In addition, there are some tracks on the record which are pure filler which add nothing to it.
Despite all of the above, there is something decidedly average and disappointing about this release. At some points, this album seems slightly strained, and tracks such as 'She's Calling Out' may make the listener wonder whether this is the best twelve tracks the Australians could come up with or the quickest twelve tracks they could record.
Rating: 7.0/10
However [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], there are still plenty of good things about this album. 'Hey Hey Disbeliever' shows the new kind of Living End tune well and 'White Noise' is an outstanding song. This is worth a listen but I doubt it will prove to be an essential in anyone's collection.
It could be argued that they have strayed too far away from their roots as well. This is quite drastically different to their other releases, and maybe by making this transition to a less punk sound they are cutting off sections of their fanbase.
'White Noise' (2009) by the Living End is released by Universal Music Australia and is available through iTunes.
Negatives Of 'White Noise'
In Australia, 'White Noise' has become massively popular [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], even reaching number one in the music charts over there. It eventually went Platinum and showed that 'The Living End' are really a musical institution in their homeland. It appears that these punkabilly rockers can do no wrong in Australia, but does the album make the cut in other places?
The title track ''White Noise' is by far and away the best track on the record. While it contains poppy hooks [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it also has a distinctly 'grunge-esque' darkness about it and this is truly the band at their best. This is a top effort from Chris Cheney and company.
